Maelezo ya Kozi
This course introduces students to the foundational principles and methods of Christian exegesis—the careful interpretation and explanation of biblical texts in light of their original context, grammar, literary form, and theological purpose. The course emphasizes the role of Scripture as God's infallible Word and equips students to interpret it faithfully and responsibly, particularly for preaching, teaching, and doctrinal formation.
From a Reformed theological standpoint, exegesis is not a neutral academic task, but a spiritual discipline done under the lordship of Christ and in submission to the authority of Scripture. Students will learn how to observe the biblical text closely, consider its historical background, analyze its structure and language, and connect individual passages to the broader redemptive storyline of the Bible. The course will also engage with the grammatical-historical method, typology, and biblical theology as vital tools of exegesis.
Application will be made to both Old and New Testament passages, with attention to African church needs such as combating false interpretation, resisting misuse of Scripture, and building doctrinally sound preaching.
