Maelezo ya Kozi
This course offers an intensive, biblically grounded, and theologically rich study of the Person and Work of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, fully divine and fully human, who is the center of redemptive history and the foundation of the Christian faith. Drawing from the whole counsel of God—from Genesis to Revelation—students will examine Christ's person and mission as revealed in Scripture and confessed throughout church history, particularly through a Reformed theological lens.
The course begins with the pre-incarnate Son and His eternal relationship within the Trinity, followed by His incarnation through the virgin birth, His sinless life under the law, His substitutionary death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension, and His present intercession and kingship. Students will explore Christ's threefold office as Prophet, Priest, and King, a cornerstone of Reformed Christology, demonstrating how Christ fulfills all the covenantal promises and mediates the new and better covenant for the people of God.
Special attention is given to historical Christological controversies and the doctrinal affirmations of the early ecumenical councils (Nicea, Chalcedon, etc.), with critical evaluation of heresies (e.g., Arianism, Nestorianism, Apollinarianism). Students will also engage with modern distortions of Christ, both within African Christianity and the global Church, and will learn how to respond with pastoral sensitivity and theological precision.
Above all, this course seeks to exalt Christ in His full glory, encouraging students to embrace Him not only as Savior and Lord but as the central and supreme focus of preaching, worship, discipleship, and mission. The goal is not only to understand Christ intellectually, but to behold and proclaim Him with reverence and joy.
