Maelezo ya Kozi
This course offers an in-depth exploration of the theological message of the Pentateuch—the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. These books, also known as the Torah or the Law of Moses, form the foundation of the entire biblical narrative. They reveal God as Creator, Covenant-Maker, Redeemer, Law-Giver, and the one who dwells among His people.
Students will study the key theological themes that run through the Pentateuch, including creation and fall, divine election, covenant, law, holiness, sacrifice, priesthood, obedience, and divine presence. Special attention will be given to the progressive development of God's redemptive plan as it unfolds through the stories of Abraham, Moses, the Exodus, and the formation of Israel as a covenant community.
Rather than focusing solely on historical or literary analysis, this course emphasizes biblical theology—the study of how divine revelation progresses and develops through Scripture. Students will consider how the theological ideas in the Pentateuch shape Christian doctrines and how they are fulfilled in Christ and the New Covenant.
The course is especially relevant for ministry in African contexts, where themes such as covenant, family, land, ritual, leadership, and community strongly resonate with cultural realities. Students will be encouraged to reflect on how the theology of the Pentateuch informs Christian living, church leadership, justice, and mission today.
