Maelezo ya Kozi

This course explores the theological, historical, and practical role of women in ministry, with a focus on the dignity, calling, and contribution of women within the Church and broader society. This course seeks to affirm the God-given value and calling of women, recognizing that while some churches may limit pastoral ordination to men, others—such as the Presbyterian Church in Tanzania—have chosen to ordain women based on the conviction that all believers are equal before God and share in the priesthood of all believers (Galatians 3:28; 1 Peter 2:9).

Drawing from Scripture, students will examine how women were created in the image of God, included in the redemptive mission of Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to serve in various roles within the Church. The course highlights significant biblical women such as Deborah, Ruth, Esther, Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, Priscilla, Phoebe, and others.

Students will explore key New Testament texts that shape our understanding of gender roles in the Church, with balanced interpretation and pastoral application. A central focus is equipping both women and men to honor, encourage, and deploy the gifts of women in biblically faithful and culturally sensitive ways.
